Frequently Asked Questions

What is the VVA Car Donation Program?

The Vietnam Veterans of America's (VVA) Car Donation Program is a program whereby donors may donate vehicles to the VVA and in turn may be eligible to take a charitable tax deduction on their income tax returns. VVA in turn converts your car donation into cash to assist very deserving veterans and their families through the many quality programs provided by the VVA.

Is my car donation tax-deductible?

Yes. VVA is a 501(c)(19) organization and has been approved by the IRS to receive donated items and issue a tax deductible donation receipt for the item. Therefore, your car donation may be 100% tax deductible based upon your personal tax situation. Please check with your tax advisor if you need more information.

How does my tax deduction work?

You, the donor, determine the Fair Market Value of your vehicle up to $500. If the vehicle sells for more than $500, we will send you an IRS Form 1098-C showing the higher selling price in which you may claim as your tax deduction when filing your taxes.

What can I donate?

VVA accepts all vehicle donations, and in most cases, we also accepts boats, motorcycles, RV's, campers and property. We accept non running and running cars. We offer free towing pickup services. We accept cars, trucks, vans, conversion vans, trailers and golf carts.

What do I need to donate my vehicle?

All you need is a title, free of all liens. If there was ever a lien holder listed on the title, we will need a lien release or original termination statement. We will request some general information from you at the time of donation such as, the year, make, and model of the car, as well as its general mechanical condition.

How long will it take to pick up my vehicle?

All vehicles are picked up in a timely and professional manner, usually within 24-48 hours. A local towing company will call you to schedule a pick-up date that is convenient for you.

My vehicle has not run in years. May I still donate it to VVA?

Yes. VVA accepts all vehicles, running or non-running, and will pick-up the vehicle at no cost to you.

What happens to my vehicle after I donate?

Your vehicle is sold at the highest possible value and the title will be transferred out of your name according to state law.

Do you accept car donations nationwide?

We accept car donations in every city in all 50 states.
